Keski-Pasila to be developed with high-rise buildings

Central Pasila

Milan-based architectural office Cino Zucchi Architetti has created a dense urban complex with 10 sculpturesque towers for Helsinki’s Keski-Pasila (Central Pasila) district. Citizens have been invited to comment on the plans.

The towers, each with 20 to 40 floors, would house commercial space, offices and residences. The uppermost floors would be terraced and open magnificent views to the city centre some 3.5 kilometres to the south. The towers would incorporate indoor communal green spaces several stories high. The tallest of the towers would house a penthouse café open to everybody.

The plans for the complex are for 3,000-4,000 jobs and housing for 1,200 people.

High-rise construction is new in Finland. It is now considered a viable alternative to further the goals of sustainable development. Owing to its central location in addition to high density, the new Keski-Pasila high-rise complex would be highly eco-efficient.

Citizens have been able to view the plans at the Laituri gallery of the Helsinki City Planning Department and post comments onto a dedicated site. The comments will be utilized in further planning of Keski-Pasila.

Keski-Pasila’s redevelopment follows the move of former cargo port operations away from central city areas to Vuosaari in eastern Helsinki. The move has vacated large railway yards in Keski-Pasila for new uses.
