Networked Helsinki

Helsinki international airport has been ranked among the world’s best airports in many passenger surveys.
The journey by rail from Helsinki to the major Russian metropolis St. Petersburg will take only three hours after a new, fast rail connection is completed in the near future. Helsinki also offers good rail service to Moscow.
Helsinki is well connected by sea to Stockholm and the Estonian capital Tallinn. There are two overnight ferries to Stockholm, and the crossing to Tallinn takes only 1.5 hours on the fastest vessels. Estonia is a Schengen country, which means that no passport is required to cross the border. There are also frequent regular connections by sea to Northern Germany and, for example, Rostock is just over 24 hours away.
Helsinki is a bilingual city with Finnish and Swedish, and English is widely spoken. Ten per cent of the population speak other than Finnish or Swedish as their first language.
